Career Development

The Career and Professional Development (CPD) is here to help you succeed. We provide our students a number of services both in-person and digitally. Our goal is for you to enter the job market with the skills and experiences you need not only to succeed, but to excel.

Personalized Career Resources

One-on-One Coaching

Throughout the program, students attend both mandatory and optional one-on-one virtual career coaching appointments. Appointments cover a range of topics including job search strategies, resume and cover letter critiques, interview preparation and debriefs, LinkedIn profile reviews and networking preparation.

 

Online Resources

VideoBio CampusRecruiter

An online tool to equip students with essential digital interviewing and presentation skills. The tool provides self-directed or instructor-led interview training with automated AI results. Students are also given full access to a question library, tutorials and most popular employer questionnaire templates.  The tool can also be used to give prospective employers secure access to screen student video profiles.

Vault

Vault provides useful industry guides and sample interview questions.

CQ Interactive 

The most advanced on-line interactive case training developed. CQI focuses on the skills you need to walk into the case interview well prepared and confident.

CareerLeader (BCom)

With business students in mind, this online career assessment tool is a fully integrated approach to business career self-assessment and is built on the premise that one’s interests, motivators and skills will drive their future career success and satisfaction.

This global job portal, is perfect for any students looking for an opportunity within or outside of Canada. You’ll find summer and new grad opportunities with a growing number of global organizations.

VMock (MBA)

A 24-7 online resume review tool, leverages technologies like data-science, machine learning, and natural language processing to provide instant personalized feedback on your resume based on criteria gathered from employers and global best practices – from anywhere, at any time of the day.

McMaster Alumni and Partners Advisor Network

Leverage the alumni network in your job search through the McMaster Alumni and Partners Advisor Network. Search alumni by company, industry, or location and start a career conversation today. This is a great tool for all students to connect with alumni online.

Employer and Alumni Connections

Company Information Sessions

Learn more about specific employers, the positions they have available, and the recruitment process during these sessions which are held at the beginning of the fall and winter semesters. These events include some time for networking as well.

Mock Interviews

This is an opportunity for you to hone your interview skills and make excellent contacts. You will participate in mock interviews with an alumnus, member of the business community or potential employer, giving you an opportunity to practice and to see how other students answer questions.

Industry Panels

These events give you an opportunity to learn more about particular career paths, job functions and industries, while also getting an opportunity to network with employer partners and alumni.

Alumni Coffee Breaks

Meet alumni over a virtual coffee as they share their career journeys with you. There are no formal presentations so students are encouraged to prepare questions and to engage in conversation.
